This is an excellent technique for building trestles in scales other than HO. The Trestle Buddy is available in HO only - so what do you do in other scales?
The trick is to provide the function of the Trestle Buddy using some other device. These are the features you want:
- Maintain the spacing of the trestle bents between one another.
- Keep the top caps of the trestle bents aligned in a plane.
- Provide a reference for measuring the heights of the trestle bents.
- Hold bents in place while they are bonded to the scenery.
- Align the trestle with the roadbed.

Notches
were cut into the subroadbed with a dado blade. The depth places the top
of the trestle top cap away from the top of the plywood by the height of the
stringers. |
The
scenery is installed using the Woodland Scenics techniques. |
|
|
|
|
| The
heights of all the bents are measured, and the bents are built. Holes have
been poked into the scenery. The bents are suspended into the scenery and
anchored with light weight hydrocal. |

|
|
|
The
subroadbed is cut out, providing access to apply the final scenery at the base
of the bents.

|
|
|
The
stringers and track are installed.

And
we are off and running!
