A Family Project - Building an HO Trestle and Two Big Bridges

I helped an enterprising 12-year old boy, along with his parents, build a great looking trestle on his 4' x 8' freelanced oval layout. The young man built about half the trestle bents and installed most of them himself.

You might think the scenery isn't finished.  You are only partially correct.  It's a snow scene!!!  Check out the ski lift on the left.

2_arch_done_side.jpg (23336 bytes) I designed the two bridges on the left for his layout. They took some real head scratching on my part.  Prototypes would not be able to span this far, but this scene looks great. All the grown-ups pitched in on these bridges. Built mostly from 1/8" x 1/8" basswood, the bridges were painted silver to resemble steel construction.

I got it this far and left town. Notice the trestle buddies under the track.
