Building Double Wide Bridges
Three side plates can be combined to build a side-by-side double bridge. The pier jigs are made to allow an extra long pier plate to be used. Assemble one set of piers on one end of the pier plate. Then flip it around and glue the piers to the other end of the pier plate. You will need to cut longer floor beams to build the double bridge. By the way. Do you notice that the trusses in the figure are Warren Trusses? Virtually all timber bridges are Howe Trusses. The diagonal elements lean inward toward the center of the bridge in a Howe Truss. This places the diagonals in compression rather than tension. |
